Real Alternative is a snazzy piece of software that you can use to play your Real media files. It downloads quickly and easily and best of all, it’s free of charge. In the past, if you wanted to open Real files, you had to download either the free version of Real Player, or you had to dig deep and upgrade to the paid for version. If you’ve got an older or slower PC, then you’ll be especially grateful to Real Alternative because it loads extremely quickly and it only uses a small percentage of your CPU, leaving you free to get on with other things.

Pro's: To be honest, this is probably better than the real thing. It doesn’t cost a penny and it’s totally free of bloat ware – something that can’t always be said of other media players which shall remain nameless.

Con's: For once, it’s pretty hard to find fault. One minor drawback is that for reasons best known to itself, Real Alternative can’t deal with a tiny percentage of Real media files – hopefully this little snag should get ironed out in time.

Conclusion: This is an excellent piece of freeware which seriously rivals Real Player, especially because it’s not pumped full of adware and other nasties. It’s simple to download, you don’t need to faff about registering and your CPU usage won't go through the roof.
